A big sparkling welcome to Sandra Torres from CBS 2.
Sandra is a general assignment report for CBS 2 in Chicago; she joined us after stints at CBS in Milwaukee and prior to that, Telemundo Wisconsin. Prior to her time in Milwaukee Sandra worked in Chicago (at WMAQ) as a morning news content producer and at WSNS as a general assignment reporter and fill-in weather anchor. So not only is she back home, but she's done just about everything. While at WSNS, she also appeared on network shows, including Noticiero Telemundo and Al Rojo Vivo.
Sandra began her broadcast career at Illinois State University in Normal. From there she went on to Peoria and then the Illinois Center for Broadcasting.
Sandra was born and raised in Colombia and moved to Chicago's northwest suburbs
when she was 13.. She
is a member of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists, the
Illinois News Broadcasters Association and the Chicago/Midwest chapter
of the National Academy of Television Arts
When asked what she was thinking about as she contemplated dancing with us she said, as a native of Colombia, she feels like "dancing is in my blood." At family parties she's done a little salsa, merengue and bachata, but she's never danced ballroom and she's a little nervous about following choreography.... it's a challenge and she's excited to give it a shot. When she agreed to dance with us she was inspired by her Aunt Eperanza who was diagnosed with cancer a year ago. It has been a very difficult fight for her aunt and her family, and Sandra dedicates her involvement in honor of her aunt. She is extra motivated to help us fight the fight and we couldn't be happier to have her.
We are delighted to have Sandra represent CBS at this year's event.
