Mike Berman - NBC 5

In the tradition of the fantastic support we've received year in and year out from NBC 5 Chicago, this year we welcome the one and only Mike Berman to our ballroom. Since the day he knew he wanted to be a sports journalist, Mike’s dream was to work in his hometown. That dream became a reality in August of 2016 when he joined the NBC 5 Sports team. And we think secretly, part of that was because he wanted to join our Chicago ballroom!

Mike is thrilled to be covering all the Chicago-area teams he grew up cheering for in the country’s best sports town, and we're delighted to report he's going to add to his list of great events covered by not just being at but by starring in Dancing With Chicago Celebrities... So he can add that to all he's covered including the Super Bowl, World Series, NBA Finals, Indy 500, Men’s and Women’s Final Four, College World Series, and many bowl games and it makes for quite a list.

Before coming home, Mike was the main sports anchor at WTTV (CBS) in Indianapolis and was a sports anchor/reporter at Time Warner Cable News in Austin, Tex. He began his career in Springfield, Ill., where he served as sports anchor/reporter at WICS (ABC) for 2 years.  Mike grew up in Northbrook.  He  attended Glenbrook North High School.

When he’s not working, Mike likes to fish, play basketball, golf and spend time with friends and family, which includes his wife and their chocolate brown Australian Labradoodle, Stanley. And now he can add dancing to the list.

Mike says he is incredibly honored and excited to be participating in this year’s event. He’s looking forward to showcasing his questionable dancing skills, and more importantly, he’s looking forward to raising money and awareness to fight breast cancer. Mike’s grandmother Marlene beat breast cancer many years ago, and helping others do the same is something he feels passionate about. We are thrilled to welcome him to the ballroom and can't wait to see his fancy footwork.
