We are so pleased to welcome, Anthony Ponce, journalist. creator and host of Backseat Rider.
Whether you know him from his days at NBC 5 in Chicago or he recently gave you a LYFT home, or you’re a fan of his show, Anthony is one of Chicago’s most familiar journalists and we’re delighted that he has agreed to join our ballroom this year.
We’ve been trying to get him to join us for years. And it’s finally happened. Yes, we got him out of the car and onto the dance floor.
Today, if you’re lucky and you call LYFT, you might find Anthony in the front seat. Formerly a news anchor with NBC in Chicago, Anthony left last summer to pursue an idea that he just couldn’t shake. He now hosts a show called “Backseat Rider” where he shares stories and opinions from his passengers.
Dancing With Chicago Celebrities fans may also recognize Anthony, already part of the Dancing With Chicago Celebrities family, thanks to his brother Dan, who won our championship in 2007. All this time Anthony claimed that he taught Dan “every move he knows.” But now, his confidence in his dancing needs a bit of boost but he’s totally committed to the fight against breast cancer and so he's taking on the challenge...
Anthony says, “I've never been much of a dancer, so dancing publicly is about as far out of my comfort zone as I can get. The night of the competition, I will be facing fear head-on! But when I think about that fear, compared to what women diagnosed with breast cancer must face, it suddenly feels like nothing. Those women--and anyone affected by breast cancer--are who I am dancing to support. “
You can come see him compete live on March 10th - but your tickets by clicking here.
